Forecast For Abersoch : Wednesday 20th November, 2024 - Issued at 7.25am by Chas

Headline Summary: Winter Cold.

Bore da - Good morning from Abersoch... we saw some sleetiness fall to sea level yesterday morning and some snow for the higher ground of the peninsula, bringing a transient covering to places such as Mynytho. Temperatures dipped down close to frost levels for a time overnignt but there has been more cloud and rain and sleet showers affecting the area in the last few hours with the clould edging temperatures a touch higher, however, some icy surfaces cannot be ruled out early this morning if skies clear for any length of time. Looking ahead and a wintry shower lottery is set to continue for the rest of the week, before a deep area of Atlantic low pressure brings in gales and heavy rain on Saturday, but we will also see milder temperatures arriving too...

Today: Wednesday: Strong winds from a northerly quarter with a mix of sunny spells, cloud and the chance of one or two wintry showers blowing through. There is the chance of a shower streamer scenario for a time this morning, meaning localised areas could see more in the way of showers. The shower risk should lower during the second half of the afternoon and evening, with the wind easing too this afternoon. Cold again with temperatures up to between 4c and 5c. Chance of a touch of frost this evening and for a time overnight and we may see the risk of wintry showers increase again later in the night - perhaps bringing some icy surfaces by morning

Thursday: Remaining cold with the chance of showers, but there should also be some sunshine. Winds from the northeast and perhaps light in the morning and then picking up to fresh to strong north to northwesterly in the afternoon, when the shower risk may increase with perhaps some snow showers later in the day. Chance of frost overnight in spots sheltered from the wind, which may be strong overnight and from the northwest.

Friday: Strong northwesterly winds in the morning with the chance of showers, which could still have a bit of a wintry flavour. The shower risk may lower in the afternoon with some sunny spells anf the wind should be lighter too, so feeling less cold. Gales from the south-southeast overnight with rain later in the night too.

Saturday: Gales from a southerly quarter on Saturday with morning rain followed by a shower lottery for the afternoon and it will become noticeably milder later in he the day with overnight temperatures perhaps above 10c.

Outlook: Southwesterly gales on Sunday with mild temperatures and a mix of sunny spells and the chance of the odd shower blowing through. Perhaps cooler on Monday with a west or northwesterly wind bringing plenty of dry weather with perhaps the odd shower and we may see a similar scenario on Tuesday - but there is loads of uncertainty by then.

Extended Outlook: The outlook for the period from Wednesday 27th November to Satutrday 30th November ... remains very uncertain this morning. High pressure may not be too far away for a time, so perhaps some dry weather is the more likely option.
